If you bought the new Samsung Galaxy S5, then you want to transfer your WhatsApp messages from your "old" smartphone. Unfortunately, there is currently no automatic backup and restore solution for WhatsApp messages included in the App. That's why we want to give you a tutorial on how to backup WhatsApp messages on your old Android smartphone and restore them on the new Samsung Galaxy S5.
You have to proceed as follows.
Save the complete WhatsApp folder from your old phone to your computer. To do this, connect your smartphone via a USB cable to the PC. When this was recognized as a mass storage device, navigate on a PC with Windows OS to:
My Computer -> Portable Device -> Phone
Here you will now find the folder "WhatsApp". Copy the whole folder and save it to your desktop. You have now successfully made a backup of your old WhatsApp messages.
Now you can upload this folder on your Samsung Galaxy S5. If you have WhatsApp already installed on your Samsung Galaxy S5, uninstall it at first. You can now connect the Samsung Galaxy S5 also via USB cable to the PC. Paste the WhatsApp Backup folder you saved on your desktop into the directory My Computer -> Portable Device -> Phone on your Samsung Galaxy S5
When you have finished this step, you can now install WhatsApp again on the Samsung Galaxy S5 by downloading it for example from the Google Play Store.
Then open "WhatsApp" on your Samsung Galaxy S5 and follow the instructions on the display. The following screen will appear: "Tap to restore"
This will import all WhatsApp messages from the backup to your Samsung Galaxy S5. You will then be able to view all your messages from WhatsApp again. Your Restore has therefore worked out perfectly! Congratulations!
