Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 3 & Epix No reaction - Display black

If you have a Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 3 & Epix Smartwatch and it suddenly stops responding to input, the display has frozen or the screen is just black, please use the following procedure to quickly solve the problem:

For this purpose, a so-called soft reset has been implemented, which has the same effect as if you briefly interrupt the power connection.

The soft reset is executed as follows on the Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 3 & Epix:

Restart if the Garmin clock does not react anymore

Hold the following button on your watch for at least 25 seconds:

  • Power Button (Light Button)

The clock will then automatically switch off and can be used as usual afterwards:

If the errors described above occur frequently, you may now be able to permanently solve the problem with a factory reset:

Reset to factory settings for a Garmin watch

This procedure deletes all data on the watch and returns it to the delivery state. So it makes sense to save your data in advance by creating a backup.

1. turn off the Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 3 or Epix

Press and hold the BACK/LAP and Light buttons simultaneously to turn the clock back on.

3. the Garmin logo should now be displayed Release the Light button. But keep the BACK/LAP button pressed until a security question appears if the factory reset should be performed.

4. confirm the query with "Yes".

Your Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 3 or Epix will then be reset and you can start the setup again.

This should now finally solve the problem that the clock does not react, the display turns black or is frozen.
