Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop SMS messages are deleted automatically – Solution

It can happen to you after the update to Android Lollipop on your Samsung Galaxy S5 that suddenly old SMS messages are automatically deleted from your smartphone. The reason for this is easily explained.

"Delete old messages" in the SMS app. The function is activated automatically in Android Lollipop 5.0. This will delete all SMS messages that exceed the maximum amount of messages by 100, beginning with the oldest messages. Of course this is annoying as you intend to keep messages for a long time on your phone. Therefore it is essential to disable this setting after updating to Android Lollipop with your Samsung Galaxy S5.

We show how one can prevent the Samsung Galaxy S5 with Android lollipop to auto-delete old SMS messages:

Open from the home screen the menu and then the Android messages app that manages your SMS messages for you. Tap in the overview on the three-point icon at the top right and scroll down in the pop-up menu a bit. Select here the menu item "Settings". In the settings you see now roughly in the center of the screen "Delete old messages". Tap on the entry. In the next menu you can now disable this feature by setting the slider from "On" to "Off". Finished!

From now on, no more SMS messages are deleted automatically from your Samsung Galaxy S5 with Android lollipop.
