Typically there are three pages on the Huawei P9 home screen available to place apps and widgets. Is that not enough and you need more space, then there is of course the option to expand the home screen with further pages.

If you are on the home screen of Huawei P9, then press one finger long on an empty space (No app or widget). The screen will become smaller now and shows the home screen pages in a minimalized view.
Scroll all the way to the right until you see a home screen page with a plus symbol in the middle. Tap on this page. A new Home screen page will be added, on which you can again place new widgets and apps.
