If you have installed the WhatsApp app on the Samsung Galaxy S8, you may see the following message in the status bar: "You may have new messages". Additionally, you will not receive any messages unless you open WhatsApp.
This message thus means that although an internet connection is available, WhatsApp cannot use it. We explain here what the most common cause of this notification in WhatsApp is:
Master Sync Disabled
If the Master Sync is disabled on the Samsung Galaxy S8, then WhatsApp will also be automatically slowed down and does no longer sync messages with the WhatsApp server. Enable master sync by tiling the status bar from the top of the display and then enabling the toggle with "Sync". Finished!
More information about Master Sync can be found here.
Save data enabled
Although the "Save Data" option is active on your Samsung Galaxy S8, WhatsApp may display the message "You may have new messages" in the notification bar.
In order to deactivate "Save Data" on the device in the Android settings, proceed as follows:
Open the App menu and then the settings. Continue to:
- Connections -> Data usage -> Data saving
Uncheck this option or add WhatsApp as an exception. More information about the Save Data feature can be found here. We hope that your WhatsApp messages will reappear immediately and the message "You may have new messages" will no longer appear on your Samsung Galaxy S8.
