Disable Skype on Windows 10 startup - Tip

There are a number of applications that are automatically started when Windows starts. These include the Skype App. Unfortunately, some users get an error message on the screen every time they start Windows.

Here it is useful to simply deactivate the Skype App, especially if you are not using it.

In this tutorial we will show you how to disable Skype on your Windows 10 PC when starting it

Disabling Skype when starting Windows 10

Method 1: Logging off Skype

The easiest way to solve the problem is to simply sign off from the Skype App. The next time your PC boots up, Skype will no longer be loaded. To log out of the App, please follow these steps:

1.            Start Skype on your PC.

2.            Then go to your profile in the top left corner.

3.            Go to Logout in the menu that appears.

Method 2: Disable Skype autostart in the application

You can disable the automatic start of Skype in the App. To do so, please follow the steps below:

1.            Start Skype on your PC.

2.            Click on the three vertical dots and select Settings.

3.            Then navigate to the General tab in the left menu bar.

4.            Finally, disable the following option: Start Skype automatically

Method 3: Disable Skype autostart via Windows startup option

You can also control the autostart of Skype from Windows. To switch off the autostart here, please follow these steps:

1.            Open the Windows settings

2.            Navigate to the Apps section and then select "Autostart" from the left menu bar.

3.            Disable the toggle switch next to Skype

Method 4: Disabling Skype via the registry

If none of the above methods work, the only way out is via the registry. This will delete the Skype start file with the editor!

Therefore follow the following steps very carefully:

Press "Windows + R" to start the "Run" dialog box.

Enter "regedit" and press Enter. This will start the registry editor.

3. copy and paste now the place below into the address bar of the editor

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Actual Version\Run

4. locate the Skype registration file and right-click on it. Select "Delete" from the context menu.

When this is done, restart your computer, and the problem should have been fixed by now at the latest.

You will be familiar with the procedure to resolve the automatic startup of Skype and a related error message.
